The AAA Summit 2018 themed “Celebrating ASEAN Angel Investment” provides a unique opportunity for the angel investment community and high-caliber startups from the region to connect, engage, and contribute to the advancement of angel investment and to promote and increase the visibility of angel investments in startup ventures in the region. The Summit is poised to attract more than 200 delegates including angel investors, ecosystem players, government agencies, and entrepreneurs from across ASEAN.

Other summit highlights include keynotes by esteemed international speakers such as Noni Purnomo of Blue Bird Indonesia named as 'Power Women In Asia in 2015' by Forbes and Thomas G. Tsao of Gobi Partners named as “China’s Top Venture Capitalists” in 2013, 2014 and 2015 by Forbes, a Talk Show on the representation of women in angel and venture capital investing, and an exclusive Debate, on the topic of impact investment, “Have your cake and eat it too: Is that what Impact Investment really is? Keynote: "Thriving in a Disruptive Economy"

The digital disruption of today compels new thinking and behaviors that “end” one trend while ironically giving rise to new awakenings that previously didn’t exist. Disruption creates many new opportunities and business models for truly innovative companies. Conventional or "old economy" companies can thrive in the disruptive economy as proven by the Blue Bird Taxi Company in Indonesia which is holding its own against disruptive companies like GRAB and Go-Jek. Noni Purnomo named as 'Power Women In Asia in 2015' by Forbes will be sharing her thoughts on this 'disruptive economy' and how Blue Bird Group faces the competition head-on and succeeds where others have failed.
Speaker: Noni Purnomo (President Director of Blue Bird Group, Indonesia)

Followed by Fireside Chat
Moderated by: Razif Abdul Aziz (Acting Group CEO of Cradle Fund, Malaysia)

Masterclass: "From Idea to Exit in 36 months"

Building a startup that people want to use is extremely hard. Technology and resources have never been more accessible, and the barrier to entry has never been lower. That means the market is now more saturated than ever. The startups that understand their clients the best will win in this environment. In this masterclass, Kalo will draw from his experience with his first software company – HeadReach, to outline the customer and growth frameworks that will help the audience to validate their startup idea; get their first 10 customers on a shoestring budget and grow to hundreds of customers and beyond and what to be prepared for when they decide to sell their startup. The session will provide practical customer development and growth strategies and tactics for early-stage startups, from a fellow entrepreneur.
Presenter: Kalo Yankulov (former co-founder of HeadReach who sold his company in less than 36 months)

Why aren’t more women represented in angel and venture capital investing? But more importantly, how does answering this question help create stronger advocates for women’s leadership? We speak with 5 inspiring women to hear their thoughts about the culture shift towards female-centric investment decisions.
Host: Sumitra Selvaraj (Executive Producer and Host, Maxman Studios, Malaysia)

Keynote: "Property Crowdfunding"

Property crowdfunding is a relatively new concept that has been creating waves in global real estate markets. So what does property crowdfunding actually mean? And what are the mechanics behind this financial innovation? How is it implemented around the world? Property crowdfunding is said to be a solution for homebuyers with the rising cost of real estate, so what sort of opportunities does this create for angel investors in the region? Power brothers, Haaris & Shaan Ahmed, co-founders of UOWN will draw on their experience with UOWN and will share their insights on some of the global best practices and discussions that are taking place in the UK which are helping shape the industry.
Speaker: Haaris & Shaan Ahmed (Co-founders of UOWN, United Kingdom)

Debate Session: "Have your cake and eat it too:
Is that what Impact Investment really is?"

You can’t have your cake and eat it too, we’re told with a stern voice and a wagging finger. But what does this have to do with impact investing? Well, that idea – that you can’t have your cake and eat it – is one of the toughest communication challenges for the impact investing industry. The idea that you can achieve an attractive rate of return and do good for the world just seems too crazy to many people. A recent Morgan Stanley survey found more than half of the 1000 people surveyed, “Believed there was a financial trade-off when it came to investing sustainably, a trend researchers said needed ‘myth-busting’” (reported by Campden FB). You can sacrifice the cash to do some good, or make some money with cold, hard capitalism. Maybe you can make your millions and then do some good through philanthropy – but both at the same time? Pfft. Let's see how our panelist debate over this topic (you can be part of the debate too, come prepared!)
Moderator: Dr Melissa Foo (Council Member of MBAN, Malaysia)

Debaters (yay! to the notion!):
Rashvin Pal Singh (Co-Founder, Biji-Biji Initiative, Malaysia) Dr Sudeep Mohandas (Founder & MD, I First International, Malaysia)

Keynote 'Angel Investment in ASEAN: Its Relevance in the Future'

Angel investors are 'hunted' for seed investment by early-stage businesses in exchange for equity but was it only in the past or is it still relevant today? Is Angel investment still relevant with the emergence of other forms of early-stage financing such as accelerators, incubators, micro-venture capital and most recently, initial coin offerings (ICOs)? To date, Gobi has funded more than 200 companies. Deriving from his own experience and challenges, Thomas G. Tsao, who was named to the Forbes List of "China's Top VCs" from 2013 - 2015 and 2017, will be sharing his insights on the future of angel investments in ASEAN.

Billion Dollar Companies was once a myth, now they are everywhere disrupting markets, technology and business models. Is disruption the only key that catalyses the growth of Unicorns or is there more to it? So, what does it really take to spur the growth of Unicorn companies? And how do we create an integrated ecosystem here in South East Asia that will foster this growth? Alan Greenberg, former Director Apple Education EMEA will share his wealth of experience in nurturing start-up companies and how AI and digital technologies can be utilised to promote a sustainable cross-border learning environment for the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region.
